FORT HOOD - The new commanding general on Fort Hood said Tuesday, his focus will include maintaining care and attention to soldiers' families.

Lieutenant General Robert Cone also spoke of the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He recently returned from an 18-month deployment to Afghanistan, and emphasized the difference in approach required to succeed there.

"You have to understand that you can't just take things from Iraq and plug them into Afghanistan. And so that will involve a lot of cultural training that we're involved in, and then I think what we're seeing is a pattern of more direct conflict."

General Cone said the higher intensity combat has to do with it being a "warrior culture" in Afghanistan. He added, the people there have been through thirty years of war and need our help.
