WACO - Your student could be sent home from school Thursday if his or her vaccinations are not up to state requirements.
Thursday is the deadline for kindergartners and seventh-graders to meet new state vaccination requirements. State law requires students who have not received the required shots or a medical waver to be barred from attending school.
The deadline was originally set for Aug. 24 but a vaccine shortage forced officials to push the deadline back to Oct. 1.
The new regulations require kindergartners have two doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine, two doses of the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine and the chicken pox vaccine.
Seventh-graders must receive vaccines for tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis and meningococcal. These students must also have the chicken pox vaccine or a doctor's note stating they've had the rashy illness.
Parents objecting to the vaccine for religious reasons can file paperwork requesting a waiver in order to have their children exempted from the requirements.
