GATESVILLE - News Channel 25 has confirmed the Gatesville Police Department and Coryell County Sheriff's Office have received several calls reporting a loud "boom" in the Gatesville Area.
Coryell County deputies say they contacted the Astrophysics Department at Baylor University who reported the boom could have been caused by "Space Junk" falling to earth.
Chief Deputy Joe Blakely reports boom was a sonic boom, and what ever object caused the boom appeared to burn up in the atmosphere.
News Channel spoke with NORAD, the agency responsible for tracking space junk on its entry into the Earth's atmosphere, who reported no man-made junk made reentry over North America Tuesday.
Deputies and civilians in Bosque County also reported hearing the boom.
The Persid Meteror Shower is visible to Central Texas and the rest of the planet as the Earth moves into a debris field caused by a comet.
