WACO - One person is dead while two others lie in hospital beds following a high speed head-on crash in Coryell County.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon on Highway 84 near Gatesville.

Authorities on the scene tell us they had to use the jaws of life to pull the driver, Karla Warren, 37, and Jay McGinty, 49, through the roof of the Ford Mustang.  Both were flown to the hospital.  As of Sunday evening, Warren was still in critical condition.  McGinty's condition is still unknown.

The driver of the other car, Burna Frank Battles, 68, of Hamilton died before emergency crews could get him out.

Highway 84 had to be shut down for about an hour because of the crash.
